COE has launched a second year series of Pandemic Influenza courses in the region. The effort is focused on building capacity, enhancing relationships, and exchanging information. The over arching design is to facilitate and participate with countries in the region that desire to enhance their surveillance and response capabilities to a Public Health emergency.

The courses being offered are:

  1. Laboratory Technician Training, January 15-18 2008, Bangkok, Thailand

  2. WHO Rapid Response Training (SE Asia), January 21-25, 2008, Bangkok, Thailand

  3. Laboratory Technician Training, May 14-16, 2008, Bangkok, Thailand

  4. WHO Rapid Response Training (S. Asia), May 19-23, 2008, Nepal (Tentative)

  5. Senior Leaders Region Symposium, Aug 12-14, 2008, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,

COE has collaborating partners in the region that assist with the courses. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides curriculum and instructors for all Laboratory related modules and the Lab courses that is being offered twice this year to build surveillance capacity within the military medical departments.

The World Health Organization assists with instructors and materials for the Rapid Response course that is being offered on r regional basis twice this year. Countries that have common borders will economic ties will work case studies that delve into some of the complexities of a region or global pandemic. The most recent WHO Containment and Buffer Zone protocols will be used in exercises.

The Senior Leader symposium will be an information exchange and discussion of pandemic plan integration on a national level. The relationship between the MOH and the military, and international agencies will be highlighted. Plan integration, exercises, and regional mutual aid agreements with neighbors and agencies in the future will be discussed. The symposium will include a case study and subject matter expert speakers.
