Combined Humanitarian Assistance Response Training (CHART) is a five-day introductory course designed to introduce military and civilian personnel to the spectrum of humanitarian action within complex emergencies and natural disasters. Course participants will discuss the unique issues in coordination, public heath, security, and logistics necessary to support or execute a humanitarian program or operation.
Graduates of the CHART course will be better prepared to respond in their respective capacities to emergencies through their increased awareness and enhanced understanding of different humanitarian response environments. Elements of response covered in the course include: the roles, mandates, and structures of other key actors likely to be encountered in the field; the interrelation of functional disciplines at the operational level; and emerging trends and issues in humanitarian action, and civil-military coordination.
Faculty for the CHART course is drawn from a diverse pool of instructors, both civilian and military, with subject matter expertise in humanitarian affairs, public health, disaster management, and peacekeeping operations.
For more information on CHART or other courses, please contact frontoffice@coe-dmha.org or call Ms. Winnie Yamaguchi at 808-433-1427.
