Pervaiz
Meer
Senior Information Research Analyst/Unit Leader
Pervaiz Meer was born and raised in Pakistan, where he attained
honors from the University of the Punjab, Department of Library
Science. He migrated to the United States in 1989, where he completed
his Master of Information and Library Science degree from the University
of Hawaii's School of Library & Information Science. Currently Pervaiz
is fulfilling requirements for a Ph.D. degree in the Communication
& Information Sciences Program. Prior positions to his assignment
at the Center include project assistant for the Rural Health Information
Clearinghouse & Database Project, Hawaii State Department of Health
and Human Services, cataloger for the Institute for Astronomy, University
of Hawaii, and consultant and librarian on assignments in Pakistan.
Pervaiz was also an instructor and computer lab supervisor at the
University of Hawaii's Library Information Science Program. He worked
as Junior Information Research Specialist at the Research Information
Services Department of the East-West Center. Pervaiz is currently
a member of the American Society for Information Science (ASIS)
and Beta Phi Mu (International Library and Information Science Honor
Society). His published accomplishments include "User-centered assessment
of two web browsers: errors, perceived self-efficiency, and success"
and a survey on agricultural libraries of Pakistan. With the Center
since November, 1997, Pervaiz's responsibilities include identifying,
collecting, organizing and disseminating Asia-Pacific disaster information
to in-house staff and faculty, the Center's partners, and other
affiliates using both public and commercially available databases.
