Staff Information
Elizabeth Kunce-Wagner joined the Center of Excellence in December 2004 and is currently serving as a Humanitarian Analyst for the Humanitarian Affairs unit. Prior to her work at the Center of Excellence, Elizabeth worked for the state of Rhode Island as a research associate and director of community outreach for several law enforcement-related commissions created by Governor Lincoln Almond during a time of crisis in the state. In this capacity, Elizabeth represented the Governor's commission working in a variety of capacities, some of which included coordinating with community activists, religious communities, state and local agencies, universities, and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. During this time, most of Elizabeth's energy was focused on issues of law enforcement training and accreditation, police-community relations, and gang intervention and prevention. Elizabeth's prior experience includes working within a women's prison as well as juvenile detention units, and working in a variety of capacities in gang prevention and youth leadership development. Elizabeth received her bachelors' degree in political science in 1998 with a minor in African and African American studies at the University of Rhode Island. Following her bachelors', degree Elizabeth stayed on at the University of Rhode Island Department of Political Science as a teaching assistant while completing a Masters in Public Administration. Elizabeth left her work in the state of Rhode Island in the summer of 2003 to pursue a Doctorate in Political Science at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. While at the University of Hawaii, Elizabeth has completed a Certificate in Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Assistance.
