July 2001

The COE will provide a speaker on civilian/military challenges for the Great Lakes Naval Reserve Symposium sponsored by Fleet Hospital 21 - 23 July. The symposium addresses issues in Military Operations Other Than War.

The COE will provide instructors for the next EIPC program Phase II Peace Support Operations training in Monterey, California at the Naval Post Graduate School scheduled for 16 - 27 July.
The HELP Course Parts I/II will be held at the East West Center in Honolulu 16 July through 3 August. Part I (2 weeks) is the Health Emergencies in Large Populations course and Part II (1 week) is the Health, Ethics Law and Policy course. 2001 marks the sixth year the course is held in Hawaii. Active duty US military make up one-half of a record number of 36 slots, with the remainder from civilian and government agencies from around the world. COE sponsors and conducts the event and provides instructors and curriculum, in collaboration with the course owner, the International Committee of the Red Cross.

August 2001

The Primary Responder Enhancement Program (PREP) course will be taught 7 - 9 August at the National Defense University of the Philippines. Drs. Thomas Ditzler and Michael Kellar, Tripler Army Medical Center, developed the PREP course to address issues of interoperability, security and worker care for primary responders. The audience of 60 will be composed of faculty from the university, and military, police and civilian disaster and crisis responders.

The COE will contribute staff and subject matter experts to provide training and scenario execution for Phase III EIPC training in Mongolia 6 - 10 August.
COE staff will support a CHART course in San Antonio, Texas, 13 - 17 August on behalf of the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute.

September 2001

A conference on international humanitarian law will be held 20 - 24 August in Columbus, Ohio. A diverse audience of experts will discuss problematic issues and the latest initiatives in international human- itarian law in the modern day operational environment. The COE will participate through expert presenters gleaned from both staff and collaborating agencies. Attendees come from both civilian and military organizations. This is an annual event in its fourth year.
